Red letter day for MCAB as it receives award

Shillong, December 5: The first Tuesday of December 2013 will go down the history of the Meghalaya Co-Operative Apex Bank Ltd (MCAB) as a red letter day which will be remembered for a long time to come by the officials and well wishers as well. MCAB chairman WK Kyndiah walked up the dais at the Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi to receive the national award for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities from none other than the President Pranab Mukherjee.

It was indeed a proud moment for the MCAB officials who might not have been present to watch the glittering ceremony where their chairman receive the award on the bank’s behalf, but nonetheless the chest of the staff had broaden by several inches as they watched the live coverage on Lok Sabha and Doordarshan TV. For the MCAB managing director DF War- the man responsible for the ground operation of this state financial institution- the moment will remain etches in his memory for years to come as he was present at the function to see his chairman receiving the award on the bank’s behalf.

The  MCAB had been selected for National Award for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities – 2013  by the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and Union Ministry for the Persons with Disability, as Best State Channelising Agency of National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation.

The awards distribution ceremony was also attended by Dy. General Manager/ Nodal Officer, NHFDC of the Bank  M Barbhuiya,

The MCAB  had started implementing NHFDC schemes from the year 2010-2011. The MCAB as State Channelizing Agency (SCA) of NHFDC is progressively increasing its loan to persons with disabilities in the State of Meghalaya.

In the financial year 2012-2013 , all 75 projects received from persons with disabilities were sanctioned by the bank. It was successful in utilization of 100% funds received from NHFDC with recovery of 100%. The bank has established itself as a good model for other states especially in the north eastern region.- By Our Reporter
