SHILLONG, SEPT 19: The National People Party (NPP) has demanded the release of all students who had been arrested for alleged manhandling and molesting women employees at West Garo hills deputy commissioner office during one of the office picketing demanding separate Garoland. NPP spokesperson James Sangma said, “All the students should be immediately released in an effort to bring back normalcy in Garo Hills.
NPP also expressed concern at the unabated bandhs which have crippled normal life in Garo hills region. “The party feels that this situation has spiralled out of control due to the manner in which it has been handled” Sangma said.
Sangma affirmed that the party does not condone the actions of the students; but felt the treatment meted out to the students who were picked up randomly and subsequently arrested was akin to the way hardcore criminals are treated.-By Our Reporter
