SHILLONG, MAY 13: The Seng Samla Marbisu (SSM) on Friday demanded immediate removal of the acting sordar of Hima Marbisu alleging that his appointment was without the consent of the dorbar.

The local youth organization also demanded that the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) reject the recent report submitted by the acting sordar which it said mislead the council and the people.

Edward Kurbah was issued sanad (appointment) as the acting sordar of Hima Marbisu by the KHADC on March 1, following the passing away of the Sordar Alexius Kurbah in February earlier this year. “We strongly opposed the appointment of the acting sordar without the consent of the hima dorbar,” SSM president Alphin Sunn told reporters on Friday.

He alleged that the KHADC had approved the name of Edward Kurbah, which was proposed by a defunct executive committee.

As per customary practices of the hima, he said that the appointment of a sordar whether acting or not should be decided in the meeting of the dorbar, which is yet to be convened. “In view of this, we demanded the KHADC to cancel the sanad and remove the present acting sordar,” he said.

Meanwhile, the SSM opposed the report of the acting sordar which alleged that the members of the SSM are creating problem and obstructing the meeting of the dorbar convened on March 19.

“We were shocked at the report of the acting sordar which is false and baseless. It aims to mislead the district council and the people of the Hima,” Sunn, a member of the SSM, said while clarifying that the members had not attended the dorbar in the name of any organization but as residents and subject of the hima.

He said that the acting sordar while convening the dorbar had disallowed the people to debate on the agendas placed before the meeting and instead directed that any issue related to the KHADC will not be allowed.

The dictatorial attitude of the acting sordar has irked the people attending the dorbar which led to huge criticism, Sunn said while adding that acting sordar had to call off the meeting without taking any decision.

He also informed that the members had also videograph the proceedings of the dorbar meeting held on March 19, which shows the inability and failure of Edward Kurbah as an acting sordar. “We will place the videograph evidence before the KHADC during a hearing to be conducted on the matter shortly,” the SSM leader said.

Meanwhile, the SSM also alleged the appointment of Edward is based on political nepotism since he was a member of the Mawphlang Block Congress Committee and also a co-chairman in one of the government departments.-By Our Reporter
