Saleng to resign before cabinet meets

Saleng-Sangma1SHILLONG, JAN 23: MeghalayaCommunity & Rural Development (C&RD) minister Saleng Sangma, who has been denied the Congress ticket, will be putting in his papers before the cabinet meeting slated for January 25. The minister back in Shillong said that his resignation from the ministry and Congress is certain.

The grand nephew of the state first chief minister late Capt WA Sangma, Saleng Sangma is perturbed with the Congress and chief minister Mukul Sangma for denying him the party ticket from the Gambegre constituency in Garo hills.

Speaking to this website on Wednesday, Sangma said, “I will be resigning from the cabinet before the February 25 cabinet meeting.”

With regard to the issue of resigning from the Congress party, Sangma said as the Block Congress Committee has been dissolved in his constituency, technically he is no longer the member of the Congress.

Sangma, however, said he will make it official by submitting his resignation to the party.

There is a speculation that he might join the United Democratic Party (UDP, but Sangma informed that he is yet to decide. He said only after resigning from the ministry and the party he will give it a thought. Informing that his supporters were waiting for his decision, he said, “Any decision I take they will accept it.”

Claiming that he was a performing minister, Sangma blamed the chief minister for the denial of the party ticket to him. He said, “As I was a performing minister, the chief minister might have got scared that I will shine in the party and he does not want anybody, especially from Garo hills to grow taller than him.”- By Our Reporter
