Scholarship delay irks KSU

SHILLONG, APR 20: The Khasi Students’ Union – Delhi Unit (KSU-DU) expressed concern over the failure of the Meghalaya government to release the scholarships for the year 2013-2014 to the students studying at different classed.

KSU-DU publicity and information secretary Pyndap Lawrwiang said in a statement issued on Sunday, “Such delay in releasing the scholarships has affected the students’ fraternity, especially those belonging from poor financial background as the scholarship is the only means for  supporting their education,”.

He said that the delay also tantamount to depriving the rights of their students.  He said, “We therefore demand the state government to immediately release the scholarships to all the students’ beneficiaries.”

He said notwithstanding the amount provided by the Meghalaya government is less as compared to other states, , he said also pointed out the failure of the state government to distinguish between those studying professional courses and general courses while providing scholarship.

He suggested to the government to review the scheme especially to grant special consideration for the students who are taking up professional course as it is expensive.
