SHILLONG, MAY 28: East Khasi hills district magistrate has promulgated an order under Section 144 CrPC prohibiting holding of public rally at Kiang Nongbah Memorial, Civil Hospital in the city on Friday and have directed all the schools to remain open. The police also have caution that any one attending the HYC meeting, especially school children, will be doing so at their own risk.
In a statement issued on Thursday, East Khasi hills SP(DSB) informed that in view of the adamant attitude of the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) to hold a rally at the Kiang Nangbah Memorial, Civil junction despite permission not being granted by the District Administration those attending the proposed meeting will be doing so at their own risk.
East Khasi hills DM office order issued an order prohibiting assembly of 5 (Five) or more persons within a radius of 500 metres at Civil Hospital area on Friday and carrying of arms and any other items having the potential to be used as a weapon which can likely cause grievous injury or harm to any person or persons. The order also prohibits procession in any form from the venue to other location.
The DM order further directed all educational institutions to remain open. Failure to comply with the directions shall be dealt with accordingly as per laws, the order stated.- By Our Reporter
