Speed up bills :KSU to ADCs

SHILLONG, MAY 28: Khasi Students Union (KSU) on Thursday demanded the KHADC and JHADC to speed up rectifying the defects in their respective bills, to institutionalize the traditional institutions.

“We demand these district councils to immediately rectify those defects in their bills (village administration) at earliest possible, as the matter cannot be delayed any further,” KSU general secretary Auguster Jyrwa said in a statement.

According to him, the demand is also being  made as the present situation has affected the functioning of the traditional institutions in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills region.

The demand of the KSU also came following the state government decision to approve and forward the village administration bills passed by the two ADCs to the Governor for his assent, once the minor defects are corrected.

Appreciating the steps taken by the government to end the present crisis, Jyrwa said, “The meeting convened by the DCA minister HDR Lyngdoh to resolve the issues related to the matter deserves appreciation.”

He also expressed support to the proposed meeting of all traditional institutions to be held on May 30 on the issue. He said the KSU hope that the meeting will give a unanimous decision to insist on the government to immediately implement these pending bills of the two councils.- By Our Reporter
