SHILLONG, APR 30: The Raliang Circle of the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF – RC) on Tuesday asked the Jaintia Hill Autonomous District Council (JHADC) to take punitive action against some self-styled headmen functioning in the region.
In a complaint lodged with the CEM of JHADC, the organization said there were many self-proclaimed headmen, especially from the Hmar community, in and around the two districts of Jaintia hills. “As per inspection conducted by our organization, it was found that there were many instances of the members of the Hmar community obtaining all the necessary documents based on different certificates issued by these self-styled headmen,” it said, while enclosing a copy of such illegal documents to the council authority.
HNYF-RC president Donbok Dkhar said: “We demand the district council authority to exercise its power as enshrined under the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution by taking strong action against such illegal headmen and put an end to their existence.”
The district council, he said, should also conduct proper checking and declare that only those dorbars recognized by the JHADC as genuine. (By Our Reporter)
