Setting of ‘Incubation Centre’ for skill

SHILLONG, FEB 7: Meghalaya would soon have an ‘Incubation-Centre’ to equip youths with adequate skills even as the union government has targeted implementing over 1133 projects under the Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMGEP) in Meghalaya.

Union minister of state for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Giriraj Singh told reporters at a news conference on Saturday “I will establish a centre which I called the ‘Incubation Centre’ for Meghalaya for providing training and skilling to the youths,”.

Stating that the BJP led NDA government’s main focus is on the youth, Singh said, “The proposed incubation centre aims at empowering at least 5000 youths per year.” According to him, 65 per cent of the total population of India comprises of the youths who are under the age of 35 years.

Singh informed that the project cost for the setting up of the incubation centre will be estimated according to the state and the training models.

Singh arrived in Shillong to hold a review meeting with the officials of concerned department.

Singh informed that the centre is targeting implementing of over 1100 projects out of the total 13,337 projects sanctioned under PMEGP for all the eight north east states. “The targeted projects for Meghalaya is 1133,” he said while informing that at present only 185 projects have been sanctioned so far with 1480 beneficiaries recorded in the state.

Apart from Meghalaya, the Centre has sanctioned 5, 101 projects for Assam, 1350 for Manipur, 1017 – Mizoram, 1514 – Nagaland, 923 – Tripura and 526 – Sikkim,  Singh  informed. He also expressed his satisfaction on the implementation of the PMEGP by the Meghalaya government.

Singh further informed that he is contemplating to develop a cluster for traditional agro products such as honey and bee honeying.  He also talked about empowering the women folks by establishing a Charka run by solar energy.

Stating the total population of women is 50 crores, he said, “The Charka is my dream project targeting that at least 10 per cent of the women can earn Rs 5000 per month.”- By Our Reporter
