SHILLONG, MAY 2: Special Force (SF)-10 commandos are all set to strengthen the ongoing counter insurgence operations to neutralize the proscribed Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) and others operating in the Garo hills.

A special interaction programme with the highly trained SF-10 commandos was conducted by the state Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Mehta on Monday.

While addressing the SF-10 commandos, the DGP highlighted the on-going Operation Hillstorm-3 in Garo Hills, IGP (Law & Order/ Operation) GHP Raju said. He said that more commandos are being sent to Garo hills for sustained counter insurgence operations in the next three to six months.

Highly trained and well equipped SF-10 commandos will be inducted into Garo hills to supplement operations teams always camping in Durama Hills. “The SF-10 commandos are rearing to go into Durama jungles to neutralise GNLA and other militant groups,” he said.

According to him, these SF-10 commandos will be equipped with state of the art equipment for jungle survival under all types of environment, including the monsoon seasons.

“They will be equipped with state of the art weapons and equipment that multiplies their striking abilities at the militants’ even during midnight,” Raju said.

He further informed that the DGP is personally reviewing the commando training of SF-10 and emphasis is on psychological toughness to withstand weather and other environmental challenges and at the same time maintain operational striking abilities even during midnight.
