Conrad appeals to ultras

SHILLONG, MAY 3: National People’s Party (NPP) president and Tura Lok Sabha candidate Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday appealed to all the militant groups operating in Garo hills to give up arms and join the mainstream.

Conrad made the clarion call to the militant outfits to ensure that peace prevail again in the Garo hills region.

The bye-election was necessitated following the death of his father, former Lok Sabha speaker Purno Agitok Sangma on March earlier this year.

“It was PA Sangma’s dream and endeavour to see peace prevail in Garo Hills. I also want to see his dream fulfilled,” Conrad said in a statement issued on Tuesday.

He said, “I appeal to those who have taken up arms to surrender themselves and come and join the mainstream. Let us work towards a better Garo hills through the path of peace.”

Conrad will be contesting against ruling Congress candidate Dikkanchi D Shira, who is also the wife of the chief minister Mukul Sangma.-From Our Correspondent
