SHILLONG, OCT 13: A shopkeeper was arrested by the police after he was caught selling Dendrite to minors.  He was identified as Sudip Pal from Oakland. Pal was running a shop in Quinton Road near Ram Krishna Mission.

The Sadar police station has been consistently working against substance abuse among children. According to the police, there has been an increase in the number of children living in the street and this is a major concern as such children can be seen sniffing Dendrites.

The action was taken after the shopkeepers and other stakeholders seemed to have failed to take heed of warnings not to sell denrites to children despite awareness programmes being organized on Section 77 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.

The Sadar Police Station has also issued a strong warning to shopkeepers to abstain from selling any form of intoxicants to children as strict action as per Sec 77 of juvenile justice (care n protection of children) act violation of which is punishable with seven years of rigorous imprisonment and fine upto Rs 1 lakh.-By Our Reporter
