Shullai inaugurates a road

SHILLONG, FEB 26: Cabinet Minister and South Shillong legislator Sanbor Shullai on Saturday inaugurated a road at Upper Lumparing.

The feeder road connecting from Mynsain Forest road adjacent to the Buddhist Temple at Upper Lumparing was sanctioned at Rs 1.34 crore under the PWD-SPA Scheme 2020-21 based on the recommendation of Shullai.

Also present were headman HB Wahlang and members of the Upper Lumparing dorbar shnong.

Shullai also conducted inspection to the organic market at Bishnupur and auditorium cum working women hostel at Rilbong and has given a one-month ultimatum to the contractors to complete the two important projects.

The organic market has been constructed at a cost of Rs 4 crore. The market complex, which has 40 stalls, will also house the dorbar hall of Bishnupur Kench Trace.

“Within one month, they have been asked to handover the building to the dorbar shnong for utilization. We will sit with the urban affairs department to take necessary action,” Shullai said.

He informed that the vendors, who are presently carrying out their business activities in temporary sheds along the roadside, will be shifted to the market complex once it is completed. The temporary structures, which have become eye sore in the locality, will accordingly be dismantled.

According to him, it is a concern that often the temporary sheds are being misused by people and this has created a lot of insecurity among the residents of the area.

Shullai further informed that the working women hostel was sanctioned at Rs 4 crore by the social welfare department but the progress of work is very slow. “Therefore, we have given a one-month deadline to the contractor to complete the project in the interest of the people of the constituency,” he said.

He also informed that the PHE and Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) officials have assured that the water supply scheme sanctioned at Rs 8 crore under AMRUT and SPA will be commissioned within the month of March.
