Shullai releases “Mystical Meghalaya”

SHILLONG, DEC 22: Meghalaya assembly deputy speaker Sanbor Shullai released the “Mystical Meghalaya”, a tour and travel guidebook written by renowned Khasi author Minimon Laloo at function on Monday.

This is the 61st book published by Laloo, who is also the secretary of the All India Poetess Conference (AIPC).

The content of the book released today has all the information of the various tourist spots and destinations located across the Khasi, Jaintia and Garo Hills region.

Shullai congratulated the author, who put a lot of effort, to come out with such a guidebook which will be of help to tourists visiting Meghalaya besides promoting the  tourism sector.

Pointing out that in foreign countries, private agencies take the responsibility of publishing such tour and travel guidebook to make it easy for tourists, Shullai however lamented that the state still lags behind in this respect.  According to him, the guidebook will also prevent instances where bad elements may take advantage of the tourists visiting the state.

Shillong Press Club president David Laitphlang said it is not easy to publish 61 books as it requires a lot of research and dedication to ensure that people are served with the right information.

Laitphlang said the book will not only be of use to tourists but will also help the people of the state in  understand better the importance of tourism sector in the state.

Laloo said she had to tour the state including Garo hills before coming up with the guide book. She also informed that the maps and road register were collected only for seven districts of the state.- By Our Reporter
