Sohkhlet show of strength at Umsning

NONGPOH, DEC 30:  Donlang Sohkhlet is locked in a fight with sitting MDC of Nongpoh C. Lyngdoh for the Congress party ticket from the Umsing constituency in the Assembly elections slated for early next year.

Supporters of Sohkhlet held a meeting at Umsning on Saturday to show how much he held sway over the voters in the constituency. Hundreds turned up at the meeting to express their backing for Sohkhlet. The meeting resolved to impress upon the MPCC and AICC to allot the party ticket to their leader.

Among the prominent Congress leaders present at the meeting included B Shadap, chairman of election committee, Min Makri, working president of RBDCC, Dipul Ryntathiang, secretary of MPYCC, O. Kharbhih, joint secretary of the State Mahila Congress Committee, C. Mawthoh, president of District Mahila Congress Committee, P.Lyngdoh, vice-resident of UBCC and D. Ryntathiang, secretary election committee of UBCC.

The Umsning Assembly Youth Congress Committee (UAYCC), however, strongly opposed the meeting convened by Sohkhlet and his supporters by allegedly misusing the name of UBCC. Wadson Kharkrang, president of UAYCC and M.G Kharshanlor, Secretary of UAYCC told ohmeghala.com that the meeting was called without the knowledge of UBCC.

The two youth leaders said Sohkhlet and his supporters have the right to demand ticket, but they shouldn’t being doing so by misusing the name of the UBCC. They wondered how the meeting could take place in the name of UBCC when both the UBCC president and secretary were conspicuously absent. They also wanted to know whether or not the meeting convened by Sohkhlet enjoyed the backing of UBCC. (By Our Reporter)
