among four candidates who filed their nomination papers for the December 13 bye-elections to the vacant seats in the KHADC.

Congress candidate Nathaniel Osbert Rymbai, son of home minister HDR Lyngdoh will be contesting from Nongspung-Sohiong seat. The seat fell vacant after his father resigned as MDC of the KHADC after the state government passed the Prevention of Disqualification (Members of Legislative Assembly) (Amendment) Act 2015 which seeks to end the culture of holding dual posts by MLAs, last year.

Rymbai, who was accompanied by his father along with supporters, also said he is confidence of retaining the party seat held by his father.

Similarly, NCP candidate Ricky Shullai is the nephew of South Shillong legislator Sanbor Shullai and set to battle his way through to ensure that the Laban-Mawprem seat is retained by the party. His uncle Sanbor had held the seat and resigned similarly like Lyngoh.

Other candidates who filed their nomination papers from East Khasi Hills district include KHNAM candidate Bankhraw Singh Kharbuli from Laban-Mawprem constituency and Independent candidate Pret Mawlong from Nongspung-Sohiong constituency.

In West Jaintia Hills district, Independent candidate Losingh Lakuna also filed his nominations for contesting in the upcoming bye-polls to the JHADC’s single vacant seat – War East constituency.
