SHILLONG, JAN 6: Peeved at shifting of the Badminton competition venue of the 12th South Asian Games 2016 from Shillong to Guwahati, the Meghalaya government is reportedly considering to totally withdrawing co-hosting the 12th South Asian Games, 2016 following what is termed as an unreasonable decision to shift Badminton discipline to Guwahati.

Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA) informed this through its letter to the Director General of SAI Injeti Srinivas, who is also chief executive officer (CEO) of 12th SAG 2016 on Wednesday.

“We have just been informed by senior government officials,  that in view of the unreasonable decision to shift Badminton from Shillong to Guwahati, the Government of Meghalaya is exploring the probability of totally withdraw from co-hosting the 12th-SAG, 2016,” MSOA working president John F Kharshiing said in the letter.

He said, “We request your immediate intervention on the matter.”

The eight disciplines originally allotted to Meghalaya are Badminton, Table Tennis, Archery, Boxing, Judo, Taekwondo, Wushu, Women’s football) while Assam was allotted 15 disciplines for co-hosting the 12th-SAG, 2016 games scheduled to be held from February 5 to 16.

“A high level meeting of Meghalaya Government is scheduled in the next few days to discuss the important matter,” he informed.

Kharshiing further stated that as per sources, the state government is seriously exploring the probability of totally withdrawing from the 12th-SAG, 2016, games.-By Our Reporter
