Speaker to seeks clarification from Sangma on the party status of all MLAs who joined NPP

Shillong, Nov 6: Meghalaya assembly speaker Charles Pyngrope is likely to issue a letter to Opposition leader and Nationalist People’s Party (NPP) leader Conrad Sangma seeking clarification on his and other legislators’ status as to whether they have left the NCP and merged with the NPP.

Speaking to www.ohmeghalaya.com Tuesday, Sangma said the speaker informally told him that a letter seeking clarification from him on the party status of the NCP legislators will be send to him on Wednesday.

All the NCP legislators except deputy speaker Sanbor Shullai had recently merged with the Nationalist People’s Party (NPP). Shulai, who has been appointed as NCP Meghalaya unit convener after all the other legislators left party, had filed a complaint against all the NCP legislators who joined the NPP and sought their disqualification.

The newly formed NPP leader Conrad Sangma, however, has not submitted the merger paper to the Assembly speaker as he is completing all the legal formalities before submitting the merger papers/ Technically, therefore, all the NPP legislators will continue to belong to the NCP within the Assembly until the merger papers are submitted to the speaker. – By Our Reporter
