Renedy feels Bhaichung should not have committed the second foul

Shillong, Nov 6: Shillong Lajong skipper Renedy Singh was of the opinion that former Indian captain and promoter of United Sikkim Bhaichung Bhutia second foul of grabbing the ball from the Arrows custodian during the Sunday I-League match in Gangtok was most “unexpected” from a footballer who was the Indian captain.

Speaking to www.ohmeghalaya.com website Singh, who has played along with Bhutia since 1991 in the Indian team said,   “I was watching the game clip and I found it stupid of Bhutia to commit the second foul by grabbing the ball.”   He said after committing  the first foul of side tackling for which he was shown the first yellow card, the  second one was unexpected from a seasoned player like Bhaichung, to whom the younger players look upto”.

Renedy, however, said there is pressure on him as a former captain of India, co-owner of the United Sikkim and a player, but the foul he did was his stupidity which he must have realize

later. He said that he had not spoken to Bhaichung after the match but to some of his

boys and the mood in their camp is sad.

When asked for his opinion on whether Bhaichung should hang his boots, Singh said Bhutia’s

presence makes a difference in the field but what was going on his mind I do not know as I feel drawing against team like Dempo is  ok but with Pailan Arrows no one will accept it.

Renedy said, “The same case with us the match against Sporting Clube de Goa we should have won but we were dejected with the result”.

United Sikkim FC managed to hold a spirited Pailan Arrows to a goalless draw at the Paljor Stadium on Sunday. Bhaichung- who had come in as substitute in the seventy-fifth minutes of the game- was shown the door by referee after being booked twice. The former Indian captain will remember the unforgettable I-League match that his team drew with Arrows.- By Suraj Joshi
