Tug of war between Megh, Nagaland over Kezo’s appointment as state DGP

Shillong, Nov 6: In what may seem like a tug-of war over the transfer and appointment of B Kezo as Meghalaya Director General of Police (DGP), Meghalaya chief secretary WMS Pariat said that the Nagaland government is not the cadre controlling authority and cannot decide on whether to release Kezo or not from his present posting as the Nagaland DGP (Prisons).

Pariat said, “ Kezo is the Assam-Meghalaya cadre officer and he has gone to Nagaland on deputation. The union home ministry and not the Nagaland government  is the cadre controlling authority, so there is no question of the Nagaland government deciding on whether to release him or not.”

Speaking to www.ohmeghalaya.com Tuesday evening Pariat said that the Meghalaya government is waiting for the union home ministry communication as the state government had written to the ministry that it wanted Kezo to take over as the Meghalaya new DGP. He said neither the Nagaland government nor Kezo can decide whether the latter should or should not join as the Meghalaya DGP.

Kezo, a 1978 batch IPS, was shortlisted from the five senior most police officers by Meghalaya State Security Commission (SSC). At present additional DGP Rajiv Mehta is the acting DGP. He also is schedule to join as the  Director Narcotic Control Bureau at the centre.

Pariat said that personally Kezo has not expressed his unwillingness to join as the Meghalaya DGP and neither can he do that. He, however, said apparently Nagaland chief secretary had written to him informing about their inability to release Kezo.

Pariat said, “However, I have not read the letter, but apparently he has written to me informing about it.”
