Committee probing illegal teachers appointment directed to segregate tainted candidates

Shillong, Nov 6: The High Level Scrutiny Committee (HLSC) probing into the alleged irregular appointment of teachers unearthed by the CBI report has been directed to “segregate” the tainted candidates from the non-tainted.

The committee headed by Education department secretary EP Kharbhih was constituted following direction of the high court to probe into the alleged manipulation of marks of the candidates appeared for the posts of Assistant Lower Primary Teachers in the different districts of the state.

As per the notification issued on October 12, the committee has been directed to scrutinize and review the records of candidates who had applied for the posts of lower primary school teachers taking into consideration and beneficial assistance and guidance of the findings of the CBI report.

The order further directed the committee to take appropriate actions in accordance with law to offer appointment or confirm appointments of duly selected candidates whether already appointed or not.

The committee has also been directed to “terminate” the appointment of those candidates who got the job on the recommendation of the politicians and instead appoint eligible candidates including the writ petitioners.

The committee will also ascertain if any officer or authority has indulged in deliberate complicity in the matter of vitiating or otherwise interfering with the selection process.

The CBI report highlighted the names of seven ministers, including the then education minister Ampareen Lyngdoh and five legislators for bending the rules and recommending the selection of their candidates as assistant teachers in the government lower primary school two years ago.- By Our Reporter
