Spirited Lajong held Salgaocar to 1-1 draw

Shillong, Oct 12: Shillong Lajong FC came from behind to snatched away a point from 2010-2011 champions Salgaocar FC of Goa after they held 1-1 draw here at JN Sports Complex on Friday.

With today’s result Lajong have four points from two matches while Salgaocar has one points from two matches.

It was the tourist who dominated the first half of the game, but were little unlucky not to open an account in the first half itself, as local custodian and defence were kept at their toes. In the very fifth minute of the game a well measured flag kick of Rocus Lamare which was headed by Angel G. Alooguer was well punched by local custodian Lalthuammawia Ralte for a flag kick. Had the ball been an inch here and there the story would have been different.

In the 29th minute Lajong came close to scoring when Boithang Haokip took a wild shot at the Sushil Kumar Singh’s setting. Haokip had all the time under the sun but he took a wild-west shot which went flying miles away from the target.

The score card was reading 0-0 at the end of the first half.
In the 52nd minute of the game referee Pranjal Banerji caught L. Lallawmzuala about 45 yard from the wooden work. A perfect free kick shot by Angel G. Alooguer which gave no room for the home side goalkeeper to go for the ball gave a lead to the visitor.

But their joy of lead was shattered a minute later when Ebi Theopillus Sukore made no mistake to convert  a cross volley of Sushil Kumar Singh which found the net.
Lajong’s North Korean defender Minchol Son was later declared the man of the match.

Post match Salgaocar coach Karim told reporters “We had two away matches and I am happy with the result today” and added “the boys really played well in these two matches and they are in a position to give big surprises during the season”.

Lajong coach Desmond Bulpin said “we are happy with the result, we have four points from two matches is not a bad start”- By Suraj Joshi.
