State to take ADC fund issue

SHILLONG, MAR 5: The Congress led Meghalaya United Alliance (MUA-II) government has assured that it would take up with the centre the zero fund recommendation by the 14th Finance Commission approved.  Chief minister Mukul Sangma assured KHADC delegation led by CEM Adelbert Nongrum on Thursday.

Nongrum informed that the chief minister assured that the government will soon take up the issue of allocation of funds to all the ADCs  with the central government.

Nongrum said the state government had examined the report of the 14th Finance Commission and it transpired that the ADCs have been left out from the purview of the Finance Commission Recommendations.

Nongrum said, “This has put the ADCs in a dilemma considering its constitutional obligation and responsibilities towards raising the level of administration within the ADC itself.”.

However despite making a zero recommendation, the Finance Commission has however strongly recommended to the centre for extending financial assistant to the ADCs from its consolidated funds as per article 275 (1). – By Our Reporter
