‘Release KHADC royalty’

SHILLONG, MAR 5: Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) requested the state government to speed up the release of its share from the royalty collected from major and minor minerals with detailed statements on the actual collection.

“We have urged the state government to take up urgently in releasing our shares on time,” KHADC CEM Adelbert Nongrum said in a letter submitted to chief minister Mukul Sangma on Thursday.

Nongrum said the release of the shares is untimely and usually on ad hoc/advance payment basis subject to adjustment which however were never regularized.  According to him, the councils are receiving shares from the state government on royalty of major and minor minerals and tax on motor vehicles at the mutually agreed ratio of 60:40 for major, minor minerals and tax on Motor vehicles and 25:75 on coal.

“It may not be out of place to point out that notwithstanding the above arrangement, the councils were never furnished with the detailed account of the actual collection made by the respective government department annually,” Nongrum said even as he demanded the government to furnish the detailed statement on the actual collection of each mineral year wise.- By Our Reporter
