SHILLONG, FEB 13: Employees of the Survey of India staged a sit-in-demonstration in Shillong on Thursday to protest against the delay in addressing their 15 point charter of demands by the union government.

The protest was organized by the employees under the banner of the Survey of India Employees’ Co-ordination Committee (SIECC) who joined their colleagues across the country holding similar agitations.

Over 180 employees took part in the sit in protest held in front of the Survey of India office’s premises.

“One of the main demands is the implementation of the comprehensive revised pay packet for the categories of central government employees as on January 1, 2014,”  SIECC president KK Das told reporters.

Informing that the 15 point charter of demands was submitted to cabinet secretary in Delhi recently, Das  said, “We are also demanding that the 7th central pay commission should determine the pay structure, benefits, facilities, retirement benefits taking into account the need to provide minimum wage with reference to the recommendation of the 15th Indian Labour Conference (1957) and the subsequent judicial pronouncement of the Supreme Court on January 1.”

Das also informed that they have also demanded on the need to determine the percentage of dearness allowance/dearness relief immediately to be merged with pay and pension including GDS.

The demands also include ensuring revision of wages or wages of the central government employees every five year in future, removing restrictions imposed by government on compassionate appointment, fill up all vacant posts and creation of new posts wherever justified, stop downsizing, outsourcing, contractorisation, and privatization of government functions, stop the move to introduce performance related pay (PRP) system, stop price rise are some of the demands.- By Our Reporter
