SHILLONG, JAN 29: The Young Indians-YI- Meghalaya chapter was launched on Meghalaya Day on January 21 at Pinewood Hotel with Investment Banker & Managing Director of Bluestream Indian Advisory Pvt Ltd Tarun Singh Negi as it chairperson and social entrepreneur and Managing Director of Group Avenues Mark Laitflang Stone as its co-chairperson.

The name of the two were announced by Young Indians National Chairman  DNV Kumara Guru in the presence of Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma and chief secretary PBO Warjri during the launched.

The Young Indians (Yi) is an integral part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), a non-government, not-for-profit, industry led and industry managed organisation playing a proactive role in India’s development process.

Yi was formed in the year 2002 with an objective of creating a platform for young Indians to realise the dream of a developed nation. Yi membership includes young progressive Indians in the age group of 21-40 and comprises entrepreneurs, professionals and achievers from different walks of life.

Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma said with a population of 30 lakh and 60,000 people employed by the government in Meghalaya it is important that the youth are able to take opportunities present in the private sector, as there is only limited space in the public sector for Meghalaya’s growing youth population.

Sangma felt that Meghalaya’s growth will increasingly be tied to the spirit of entrepreneurship and the state’s business leaders require support to achieve the vision of a prosperous Meghalaya. Sangma also highlighted the opportunities to fulfill the agendas of the state through Yi and he looked forward to partnering with the chapter to help the youth realise and achieve their dreams.

Meghalaya chief secretary PBO Warjri while congratulating the Yi Meghalaya Chapter for having successfully launched its initiative, emphasised the value and need of the government to work in partnership with different sectors to empower the youth.

Warjir informed the moves of the Meghalaya government to get the young people fully involved with government activities, such as the Youth for Green Mission. He said banking on the rich natural resources that Meghalaya possesses, the state is also encouraging the development of industries tied to renewable resources like bamboo.- By Our Reporter
