Teachers set to lose job

SHILLONG, FEB 21: Meghalaya law department has directed the education department to terminate the service of 245 lower primary school teachers whose appointments in 2010 were found ‘tainted.’

A senior education department officer revealed that the 246 teachers will be issued notices as per the law department directive.

The High Level Scrutiny Committee (HLSC) constituted by the state government last year to probe into the alleged education job scam unearthed by the report ofCentral Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recommended termination of services of such teachers.

A CBI report found that 255 candidates out of 350 managed a back door appointment after politicians recommended their names for appointment to the assistant teachers post in lower primary schools in 2010 when the present urban affairs minister Ampareen Lyngdoh was holding education portfolio.

It is learnt by February last week the education department will complete the task of issuing the termination notices to the teachers. – By Our Reporter
