Teachers’ to join protest

SHILLONG, MAR 26: The lower primary school teachers in Meghalaya decided to join the ‘nation-wide protest’ on the proposed move of the centre to run all the primary schools in the country under the public-private-partnership (PPP) mode.

The nationwide protest will be held in New Delhi on April 4.

“We have decided to extend our solidarity with the nation-wide protest sponsored by the All India Primary Teachers’ Federation (AIPTF) next month,” All Meghalaya Primary School Teachers’ Association (AMPSTA) general secretary, FC Shullai told reporters Tuesday.

Shullai said, “The decision to operationalize all primary schools in the country under the PPP mode is not acceptable and the government must roll-back its decision.”

According to Shullai, the teachers will be greatly affected and exploited if the decision is implemented by the union government besides depriving them of various facilities and benefits.

Shullai informed over 200 primary school teachers from the state would leave from Meghalaya on March 30, to be part of the nation-wide-protest in New Delhi.- By Our Reporter
