SHILLONG, MAR 26: CSWO president and RTI activist Agnes Kharshiing who was arrested early on Tuesday evening was released on bail by a city court in the evening. She was arrested by the police from her Laitumkhrah residence at around 6 am on Tuesday.

The arrest was made on the basis of a police complaint filed by the Meghalaya Secretariat Administrative Department (SAD) deputy secretary E Lyngdoh with the Sardar police station against Kharshiing for forcibly entering the main secretariat along with two other women without proper authorization. The complaint was filed on March 20.

Kharshiing was booked under section 353, 447 and 180 of Indian Panel Code.

Following the arrest of the Kharshiing, members of various ngos rushed to the city court.

The ngos consisting of FKJGP, Impuls Network, KWWADA, RBYF and MSM have written a letter to the Meghalaya home minister Roshan Warjri to provide them with the CCTV footage of March 20 when Kharshiing along with two women had entered the secretariat forcibly despite being stopped by the police and the secretariat staff at the gate.

In the letter the ngos claims that on March 20 Agnes had accompanied family members of a rape victim to help them file a complaint. She wanted to take them to the media center in the main secretariat.

The letter also claims that the guard on duty at the secretariat was extremely rude especially with the mother of the rape victim and prevented them from entering the secretariat..

FKJGP president Joe Marwien told this website, “We just want to see the footage of the CCTV of main secretariat to know the fact of the story”.- By Our Reporter
