Teaching is a noble profession

SHILLONG, NOV 25: 2017:  Former Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University and Deputy Chief of Indian Army (retd.) Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah today said that teaching is the most important and noble profession in India as it shapes all other professions while a university will always be known for the quality of its research. Popularly known as the academic soldier of India, Shah was here today to address the faculty members of the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya in his speech titled “Art of a good teacher”.
Addressing a gathering of about 200 teachers and other participants, Lt. Gen. Shah said that teachers have immense responsibility towards nation building by helping the students to become future leaders of the country. “For a student, it is very important to decide the course of
life. Teachers have to guide the students even by playing the role of a parent”, he said. While emphasizing on research as a crucial field in a university, the former VC of AMU said that the nano revolution is going to be a deciding factor for our future. Crucial issues in the world today
such as hunger, water shortage, energy crisis could only be solved through research and development of nano technology, he added. He urged the University to promote research which is contemporary, tangible and meant for the betterment of mankind. Greeting the university
members, he said that USTM is going to grow into a great university.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Prof. Amarjyoti Choudhury, Vice Chancellor, USTM termed the university as a “melting pot” as it has been able to mould the careers of students belonging to different communities and tribes of the North East. He said that the university has been constantly putting efforts in academic research as well as outreach programmes.
Speaking on the occasion, Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor, USTM and Chairman ERD Foundation, said that USTM has a mission to start schools in remote areas of the region. He also urged the former VC of AMU to use his good offices for initiating a system in which teachers of USTM can avail orientation at AMU because private universities do not have administrative staff college as per UGC norm.
