Three engineers kidnapped by GNLA

Shillong, Oct 20: Three engineers of a Hyderabad based road construction company were kidnapped by  Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) in East Garo hills district Saturday. Police said that these three have been kidnapped for ransom even though the ransom demand has not been conveyed to the company.

The kidnapped engineers have been identified as Manoj Kumar, Deepak Kumar and A.K.Sharma, of the BSC-C & C (JV) road construction company.

Meghalaya’s Inspector General of Police (Western Range) FD Sangma informed that these three engineers were working for the construction of the Rs, 1 494 crore  two lane ninety four kilometers Shillong to Tura via Nongstoin road.

According to Sangma the three engineers were kidnapped by the heavily armed GNLA militants when they were travelling towards Assam. He informed that the vehicle they were travelling was stopped in Dambu Aga Forest at gun point and they were abducted. The driver of the vehicle and another traveler were released unharmed.

These two people informed about the kidnapping to to Rongmil police camp. Police said that the company had earlier been served demand notice amounting to crore of rupees.

Security agencies have launched a massive search operation to rescue the three kidnapped engineers.  The Combat Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) and Meghalaya’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) commandos are also engaged to locate and rescue the engineers. – By Our Reporter
