Knowledge pays the best : Pyngrope

Shillong, Oct 20: Assembly Speaker Charles Pyngrope said a right “investment” in education is the solution of all future difficulties in the state.

“An investment in “knowledge” pays the best “interest”, Pyngrope said even as he congratulated the UPA government for making Right to Education a constitutionally assured fundamental right to every citizen while addressing at the platinum jubilee celebrations of the DNS Wahlang Memorial Secondary School   Saturday.

Pyngrope said, “Nations which are on the forefront be it in economy, technology or defence are those which had  started with investment in education and had nearly 100 per cent literacy.”He felt what it cost would have cost yesterday to improve the rate of literacy,  cost will be mammoth running into billions thereby making the process of emancipation slow and tedious today”

Speaking about the DNS school Pyngrope said the school is known as the ‘Khasi Pnar Academy’and has weathered the times for more than 75 years with an outstanding contribution to creation of worthy human capital.

Pyngrope also said the school, over the decades, by the sheer diligence of the academic and the administrative community, has carved a niche for itself in the advancement of the Khasi Pnar community and also a variety of ethnic communities in the North East in particular and India in general.

Calling on the teachers to ignite minds while educating them, Pyngrope said, “Several policy initiatives in the field of education have been taken, and today the whole scenario is surcharged with innovation and creativity.”  He further stated that it is not only the IITs and IIMs that will produce the best human capital but every school, college and university in the country must strive to become an institution of ‘great learning’.

“Across the board, we must be able to create a wave of extraordinary creativity where every single student you encounter is a piece of marble which must be chiseled into a statue of grandeur,” Pyngrope said adding “This is a task of utmost devotion and teaching is a noble profession that calls for commitment and self-less endeavour.” – By Our Reporter
