Three GNLA men held

SHILLONG, JAN 11: The Border Security Force (BSF) on Friday arrested three militants of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) from the Khasi hills districts and recovered two 9 mm revolvers and extortion notes from their possession.

Official sources said acting on a tip off, the BSF laid a trap to nab Nowel Momin (25) and Arbin Marak (20) and from the coal rich area of Borsora. While Momin is from Horupukni village, Marak is from Kalachandi. The third militant, Sukumar R Sangma (23), who hails from Rajagaon under Mawsynram police station in East Khasi hills district, was picked up later from Horupukni area under Mawsynram PS after on the basis of the information provided by the two rebels arrested earlier.

Apart from the revolvers and demand notes, 19 rounds of ammunition, a mobile phone and Rs 2,050 were recovered from the three militants. A source said the militants confessed to their involvement in a number of extortion and other illegal activities during preliminary interrogation. (By Our Reporter)
