Tura’s Gandhi Jayanti run

 

SHILLONG, SEPT 30: On Gandhi Jayanthi Day on October 2 the State Bank of India (SBI) Tura region with the support of District Sports Office is organizing a Peace Run in Tura. SBI Tura region assistant general manager Nixon Joseph said that the run is being organized for peace, fun, fitness, unity and for a cleaner Tura. The theme of the run is “United we run for peace”.

It is both a competitive and family event. Over 2500 participants registered for the run. The registration was done in all the branches of SBI in Tura.

There will be races for 7kms and 2km. To make it more participative by all, Joseph said that the run could be completed by walk or run. Attractive cash prizes would be given to all winners in various age categories and also all participants are eligible for lucky cash prizes of Rs.1000/- each.

The seven kilometers run will start at 9 am from Chandmari ground and finish at MP stadium. The 2 km run will start from Chandmari ground and finish at Hawakana junction.

Joseph stated that the run is going to be a mega event in Tura with the involvement of all government departments, colleges, schools, ngos and churches.

More than a serious event it is also going to be a fun event for the family as all can participate and complete the run by walk also. It would be an opportunity for the people of Tura both young and old to come out and display their cherished desire for peace, unity, fun, fitness and cleaner Tura.

The run would also provide an opportunity to many youngsters to be volunteers to assist the race organisers and gain experience in organizing a run.  If the run is  successful in Tura, SBI proposes to make it an annual feature and repeat the same in all district headquarters of Garo Hills.

The run will be flagged off by Meghalaya home minister Roshan Warjri at Chandmary playground at 7am on October 2. There will be water stations in Ringrey, Hawakhana, Araimile and MP stadium.- By Our Reporter
