SHILLONG, SEPT 30: The agitating teachers under the banner of Joint Action Committee of All Teachers’ Association of Meghalaya (JACATAM) have given three months deadline to the state government to provincialise the teachers services.
The deadline was served when delegation of JACARTAM met Meghalaya chief secretary WMS Pariat and others government officials on Monday. After the meeting, JACARTAM chairman ED Nongsiang said the government has assured the delegation of making a comprehensive study on the provincializing the teachers’ service.
Nongsiang told newsmen that the JACARTAM informed Pariat and other officials that there is no service rules for teachers in Meghalaya and teachers also face large disparity in pay structure since Meghalaya has many categories of teachers. The organization wants the government to fulfill its demands on the line of others states like Tamil Nadu and Goa where service rules are available for teachers.
The teachers also presented facts and status of various teaching categories and schools in the state in the meeting.
The JACATAM delegation demanded the MBOSE to revise the syllabus of Class XI and XII as per the CBSE pattern since many students have to sit for national eligibility test for their further studies and questions in the NET are mostly taken from NCERT books in line with CBSE course.
Nongsiang informed reporters that the MBOSE chairman has assured to take up the matter and the board may introduce the new syllabus in near future. The teachers delegation also expressed their hesitation over the best of five system fearing that the system would drop the interest of students in Maths and Science and situation may reach such a point when maths and science teachers would have to be invited from outside the state.
Expressing their discontentment over the fact that students receive their scholarships much late, Nongsiang also demanded that the government must open a centre in Shillong for national level test for post graduate studies.- By Our Reporter
