SHILLONG, MAR 4: East Khasi hills police on Friday arrested two persons for circulating demand notes of the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) in Shillong city and its suburbs. Acting on inputs, East Khasi hills police geared up its intelligence and managed to arrest one person identified as Vincent Khyriem (27) of Mawlai Mawtawar, police informed.
East Khasi hills police chief M Kharkrang said on interrogation, the accused admitted of having circulated the demand notes sent to him by the HNLC from Bangladesh. Later on the lead provided by him, Wankarlang Rynjah (22) of Demseiniong was also picked up, Kharkrang said.
According to him, police investigation will reveal if any of the people being served with demand notes have actually paid and where there are any more accomplice of the arrested person.
From his possession, 2(two) mobiles and 10(ten) SIM cards of different service providers were seized.
Kharkrang also assured that the district police is taking all steps to ensure that no militant groups are allowed to make inroads into the district.-By Our Reporter
