TURA, AUG 22: In a joint army and police operation in North Garo hills, two ASAK militants were killed on Friday at Soba Jambal village, along Assam – Meghalaya border. The encounter took place at around 3:30 am.

The operation was led by police and Army from the Dogra regiment based in Damra, Goalpara district of Assam.

North Garo hills SP Jerry Marak said, “Based on source inputs we launched the operation and managed to gun down two militants.”

Police said that there were around seven militants, who were talking shelter in the village. “Those carrying AKs managed to escape”, Marak added. Police recovered two 7.65 pistols, three 36 grenades, 12 empty cases of AK, five empty 9 mm cases, six empty 7.65 cases, 16 metres of cortex wires, one extra magazine of a pistol, three SIM cards and a mobile phone.

At Rongjeng in East Garo hills, police and CoBRA commandos busted a makeshift camp of GNLA. “A group of militants, who were talking shelter at the camp managed to flee, when they saw the security forces”, said East Garo hills SP Davies Marak. – From Our Correspondent
