SHILLONG, JUNE 26: A force level conference of BSF was held at Shillong, which is an annual feature. BSF senior officers from all over India consisting of Director General,  five Additional Directors General, nineteen Inspectors General and Director, Pay and Accounts department  attended the conference that was held on June 24 to June 25.

A number of issues related to border/internal management/training/operation, etc. were discussed and deliberated.

The Land Boundary Agreement which has been passed by the parliament was discussed during the meeting and the problems related to exchange of adverse possession of lands and enclaves were discussed thread bare.

The smuggling which is prevalent all along the eastern and western border was deliberated and strategies discussed to check the smuggling of narcotics/liquor and other contraband items.

The BSF is facing challenges on managing/guarding the International boundary both with Pakistan and Bangladesh and that procurement of high tech equipment is under process, to enhance supervision and reaction capability of its troops.  A large number of vehicles of various categories are also being introduced keeping in view the terrain at border

BSF director general met the Meghalaya government and chief secretary and discussed land acquisition and of flood lights at international border.

A number of other problems being faced by the BSF during the performance of their duties on border were also discussed and DG BSF requested the assistance of state government for better performance while serving the nation.- By Our Reporter
