TURA, SEPT 20: Meghalaya police on Saturday busted two makeshift camps of Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) at Chokpot in South Garo hills district. Police claim that the two camps had sheltered 30 – 40 GNLA cadres. Of the two, one of the camps was deserted.
A brief encounter took place at the second camp. However, the militants managed to escape. The hideout is situation about 60 km from Tura in West Garo Hills.
“A police team was camping at Chokpot to flush out militants from the hideouts for the last three days. It was only today that they managed to locate the hideouts. One of the hideout was found at Nokatgre village, near Deku”, said Lakador Syiem, SP of South Garo hills.
Syiem added, “We found another camp very close to the deserted one and there were more than 30 cadres, who managed to escape”. Police said that both the camps were located at a distance of roughly about 500 meters.
“They were able to see our approaching Gypsy as the sentry was atop a tree. He warned the others after an exchange of fire, they escaped going further into the jungle. We only got their belongings and dairies”, said Syiem.
The militants were allegedly led by Hadeo. The flush out operation is part of the ongoing “Operation Hill Storm”.- From Our Correspondent
