UDP demands Lyngdoh removal

Shillong, Nov 5: Calling the manipulation of the appointment of the assistant teachers of government lower primary schools the biggest education scam of the present Congress led Meghalaya United Alliance (MUA) coalition government led by Mukul Sangma, the United Democratic Party (UDP)- a partner in the MUA-demanded the “immediate removal” of urban affairs minister Ampareen Lyngdoh for her role in the education scam during her tenure as the state education minister.

 In a memorandum submitted to Sangma Monday, UDP president and former chief minister Donkupar Roy said, “The UDP strongly calls for your immediate intervention to remove the tainted minister, both on moral and legal grounds as her continuances in the office has become untenable.”

Roy said the CBI findings indicting Lyngdoh of “scandalous, manipulation in appointment of teachers” has shattered the confidence of the common man in the political class and the confidence needs to be regained by immediately removing Lyngdoh and restoring the original merit  list. Saying that the department inquiry announced by the government is noting but an “eyewash” government should facilitate a fair and speedy trail and not impede the course of justice in any manner.
Saying that his party his “shell-shocked” over the recent statement made by chief minister that the chief secretary has been directed to find out as to how the CBI report was leaked to the media, Roy said urged the government to pursue the matter by “bringing the guilty to book” and ensuring that justice triumphs.- By Our Reporter
