Vendors allowed to carry trade in Polo market till final court order

Shillong,Oct 30: Meghalaya urban affairs minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said that the department has allowed the vendors to continue their business at the Polo market until the court passes its verdict.

“We have temporarily allowed them (vendors) to continue with their businesses at the market till the court gives its final decision on the matter,” Lyngdoh told reporters Tuesday.

The construction of the Rs 21.41 crore new market complex was supposed to take off since January this year. However, the construction was delayed because some of the godown owners filed a petition in the court after the Municipal Board asked them to evacuate the place.

“Due to this court case and litigation, the project is delayed further,” Lyngdoh said.  She informed that the department’s counsels are already on the job in making the case strong.

Earlier, on direction of the court the department had made arrangements for rehabilitation of the vendors to carry with their day to day businesses.

Lyngdoh said because of the delay in the construction work, the construction agency is giving a second thought on whether to take up the construction works.-By Our Reporter
