Sanbor files nomination

SHILLONG, FEB 2: HSPDP supremo, Hopingstone Lyngdoh, who has not lost single elections since 1972, filed his nomination papers  along with 23 other candidates that includes State Assembly Deputy Speaker and NCP candidate Sanbor Shullai who is contesting from South – Shillong constituency in the upcoming February 23 assembly elections.

Lyngdoh filed his nomination from Nongstoin constituency in West Khasi hills district before the District Election Officer on Saturday. His party colleague from Mawshynrut, Witting Mawsor also filed his nomination.

Others who filed their nomination from West Khasi hills district included Rambrai – Jyrngam independent candidate Kimfa Sidney Marbaniang and Mawshynrut independent candidate Lowis Sangma.

In Shillong, Shullai was accompanied by thousand of his supporters to the DEO office of East Khasi hills to file his nomination.

Two of his party colleagues including Pynthorumkhrah NCP candidate Satyendar Kumar and Mawsynram NCP candidateTobias R Marak also filed their papers together.

Of the six candidates from East Khasi hills who filed their nomination papers on Saturday Mawlai independent candidate, Teiborlang Pathaw, South – Shillong BJP candidate, Augustine Lakiang and Mawsynram UDP candidate, Khrawkupar Jyrwa are also included.

In Sohra Civil Sub-division, KHADC MDC Grace Mary Kharpuri filed her nomination as independent candidate from Shella constituency. She will be contesting against former chief minister and Shella sitting legislator who is also the UDP president  Donkupar Roy. Along with Grace, Shella Congress candidate Jrop Singh Nongkhlaw also filed his nomination.

Meanwhile, denied of Congress ticket, Stanlywiss Rymbai filed his paper as independent candidate from Umroi constituency in Ri Bhoi district.

In South West Khasi hills district only one candidate from the National People’s Party (NPP) Renikton Lyngdoh filed his nomination from Mawkyrwat constituency.

In West Garo hills district, candidates filing their nomination included Rajabala UDP candidate Dr Mizanur Rahman Kazi, North Tura independent candidate Kredithson Ch Marak, North Tura NCP candidate Andreas T Sangma, North Tura independent candidate Rogger Benny A Sangma, South Tura independent candidate Aderina K Sangma, Rangsakona BJP candidate Anil Hajong, Gambegre Congress candidate Besterfield N Sangma and Gambegre NCP candidate Sanjiv R Marak.

Two candidates from South Garo hills district also filed their paper which included Chokpot NCP candidate Bluebell R Sangma and Baghmara independent candidate Samuel M Sangma.

Altogether, eighty-five  candidates from the different constituencies of the eleven districts and four sub-divisions in the state have so far filed their nomination on the fourth day for filing of nomination for the upcoming polls.- By Our Reporter
