Release the arrested

NONGPOH, ARP 22: Villagers from seven villages under the Lumdiengngan on Tuesday gheroed the office of the Ri Bhoi deputy commissioner demanding the unconditional release of the ten people who were arrested in connection with the demolition of four houses at Wahswat village. The villagers had also protested on Monday at the Khapmara police station.

The villagers forcibly tried to enter inside the deputy commissioner office to press for the release but the police prevented the crowd from entering inside the campus.

The four houses at Wahswat were demolished by the local villagers of seven villages after the high court had ruled in favour of the Sordar of Raid Tynring in a land dispute with the seven villages.

The CSWO (I) general secretary Christabell Wanniang is among the ten persons who were arrested for allegedly instigating the villagers to demolish the houses.

The other arrested people includes three headmen — Kobring Jyrwa, headman of Lumdiengngan village, Smek Marboh, headman of Lumkseh village, and Tribor Mawthoh, headman of Mawkynring village – besides others — Kril Nongbri, Philik Syiemiong, Tarsin Nongbri, Darius Mukhim, Cyril Kharshiing and Marylinda Lynshing.- By Our Reporter
