SHILLONG, NOV 20: Taking a dig at chief minister Mukul Sangma, NPP nationa president and Tura Lok Sabha MP Conrad K Sangma urged union ministers of the NDA led centre government to consider visiting the NE region and the state even more for better monitoring of work at the ground. “Such visits are absolutely necessary and I urge them (union ministers) that they should come even more,” Conrad told newsmen while reacting to recent comment of the chief minister Mukul Sangma.

The Tura MP further suggested that the chief minister check on the number of trips he himself made to Delhi every weekend.

“I think the CM is not looking at his own travel and I think it is ironic to comment on somebody else’s travel. The CM should understand that there is something called monetary,” he said.

Mukul had recently stated that the intent of the frequent visits by the central ministers would be investigated.

On the other hand, Conrad said that the Centre decision to depute the central ministers is important and should be supported.

“The physical presence of ministers or higher ups coming in and asking the state government officials about the implementation of the works does create a kind of pressure,” he said.

Stating that the central ministers will have better understanding on the problems faced by the NE region when they see it with their own eyes, Conrad said, “It’s only if they see with their own eyes that they will realize what difficulty North east faces and how different the region is and what kind of different policies we need to make.”
