VPP slams MDA over political appointment spree

SHILLONG, APR 17: Voice of the People Party (VPP) chief Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit on Monday slammed the chief minister Conrad K Sangma for indulging into the alleged political appointment spree.

He was referring to the government’s decision to appoint consultants, chairmen, co-chairmen, chief adviser and advisers.

“If the chief minister requires appointing a chief adviser, then he is not fit to be the chief minister of the state,” Basaiawmoit said at a public meeting held here.

“It is a shame that people who lost the elections are appointed as chief advisers to the chief minister. What is the need? Isn’t this not a waste of public money?” he questioned.

He further alleged that political appointments are depriving the youth of employment opportunities. Basaiawmoit also warned the state of financial crisis due to such action.
