SHILLONG, JAN 20:  Exactly two months after her resignation,  Meghalaya’s first lady home minister Roshan Warjri withdrew her resignation letter after the chief minister Mukul Sangma prevailed upon her. She will continue to hold the home department.

An elated Sangma informed newsmen at the sideline of the cabinet meeting on Tuesday, “She (Warjri) had agreed to take back her resignation letter.”  He said, “I have had a lengthy sitting with her and I prevailed upon her to take back the beautiful letter of her resignation requesting me to relieve her.”

“She would continue as minister, as member of the cabinet with the same portfolios,” Sangma announced.

Roshan Warjri, who became the first woman home minister of the state, decided to quit from the ministry on November 20   last year owing moral responsibility of the deteriorating law and order situation in the militancy infested Garo hills region.

After Warjri’s resignation there were speculations of a cabinet reshuffle which however did not take place. On the reshuffling issue, Sangma said reshuffling of portfolios will be decided in due course of time.

Sangma told newsmen, “My government is just two-years old, the decision to reshuffle the cabinet will be taken in due course of time.”

Effort to talk to Warjri failed as she did not respond to phone calls on Tuesday night.- By Our Reporter
