WHK impose Section 144

SHILLONG, AUG 17: The West Khasi hills district administration has promulgated section 144 CrPC on Tuesday in view of the office picketing and night road blockade called by ngos on the September 17 and 19.   The administration has prohibited/banned carrying of license arms by any licensed holder or any other person.

West Khasi hills is hit by twin agitations, one called by the ngos demanding implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state and the other called by the Hynniewtrep A’chik National Movement (HANM) West Khasi.

The HANM West Khasi hills unit on Monday announced stir in West Khasi hills district demanding removal of the district’s deputy commissioner S Kharkyngdoh.  It announced office picketing in West Khasi Hills district on September 23 and 24 demanding removal of S Kharlyngdoh.

HANM was supposed to stage a sit-in demonstration in DC office premises, but the security personnel did not allow the agitators to enter the campus. The protesters holding black flags then moved to Nongstoin market from where they took out a procession to the basketball court at Ladweitang.

In a meeting after the protest the HANM decided to hold the office picketing.

John Paul K Bani, chief organizing secretary, HANM West Khasi hills on Monday had justified the demand for removal of the DC, saying he has already completed tenure of over three years in the district.- By Our Reporter
