With Bacardi, music to go at different level

SHILLONG, OCT 14: Shillong in particular and Meghalaya in general is going for a major shift-over  from simple musical concerts to jumbo music festival with the Bacardi NH7 Weekender all set to take music-lovers to a different level of experience.

The headlining acts line-up for the two-day Shillong leg of Bacardi NH7 Weekender 2015 includes the pioneers of thrash metal-‘Megadeth’ and legendary Jamaican reggae musician Bob Marley’s former band – ‘The Wailers’.

Known to be the happiest music festival in the country, the Bacardi NH7 Weekender, which entered its 6th year, will be held at RBDSA Sports, Madan Kurkalang, Bhoirymbong, Ri Bhoi District from October 23-24.

The festival will also features artistes across diverse genres which include Kailasa, an Indian fusion band founded by Kailash Kher, Papon and The East India Company, Parikrama, Indus Creed, Bhayanak Maut, Nucleya and emerging experimental rock act Akummika to name few.

“Over 50 bands and artists from reggae, blues, electronic to folk musics will be performing during the event,” Only Much Louder (OML) CEO Vijay Nair told newsmen at a press conference held here on Wednesday.

According to him, anybody who likes different genres of music will find their way here in the festival.

He said that while tickets for the festival can be booked through Insider.in, people can also grab their tickets at the festival venue or log on to nh7.in/weekender.

“Young music fans born after October 24, 1994 can purchase their Under 21 ticket at Rs 1000 which is valid for both days of the festival, while regular season tickets (valid both days) are priced at Rs 2000 and single day tickets at Rs 1250,” Nair said.

The CEO however said, “For persons with disabilities and persons with mobility impairment besides children under the age of 12, the entry to the festival is free of cost,” adding “We appeal to the public to bring as many children as they want to the festival, which is a festival for families too.”

Meanwhile, Meghalaya Tourism Development Forum (MTDF) chairman RG Lyngdoh said the simple concerts, autumn festivals being held in the state is nothing compare to the potential what the Bacardi NH7 have.

“This is gonna be a huge opportunity for Meghalaya, which will surely change the perception of the people in term of doing business besides promoting tourism,” he said adding “We appeal to the people to take the festival in a positive way, with the benefit that is going to be huge.”

Appreciating the support extended by the state government, Lyngdoh said, “Though the support is not through money, but it is in term of omission and concession. The Chief Minister is taking keen interest to ensure that the state machineries support the event in a befitting manner.”

Stating that government jobs are not enough, he said that with such event going to take place, it would definitely open up employment avenues to the local people.

Meanwhile, the organizers has maintained that there will be zero tolerance of any hooligans besides heavy checking and frisking will be done to ensure no drugs and alcohol enter the venue.

“Extra precautions are also taken to ensure women are respected as we are here for a long term,” the CEO said. – By Our Reporter
