SHILLONG, DEC 9: According to a police report 108 civilians and one police personnel were abducted by the different militant outfits this year in Garo hills even as it stated that over 200 militants belonging to 15 militant outfits operating in Meghalaya, particularly Garo hills, have been arrested during the 301 counter insurgency operations conducted by the state police.

According to police, of the 218militants who have been arrested, 26 cadres are from the GNLA, 36-AMEF, 18 – ASAK, 11 – ANLA, 10 – ANCA, 8 – LAEF, 5 – NDFB, 4 – UALA , 3 – ULFA, 3 – ANVC.B (now disbanded), 3 – UANF, 1 GNAF, 9 – HNLC and 45 others.

The arrest was made during the anti-insurgency operations launched by the Meghalaya police from January 1 to December 8. The police report also revealed that as many as 54 cadres of the different outfits have surrendered during this period while a total of 39 were killed.

The report also stated that the operations were also successful in busting the camps of AMEF at Boldra Abri, East Garo Hills and Daso, West Khasi Hills, joint training camp of GNLA-ULFA at Durama Hills near Nokrek peak, East Garo Hills, GNLA camps in Gonjagre, South Garo Hills, Patalagre and Songmagre villages besides Khakwa Duragre jungle, East Garo Hills.

The police was also successful in seizing a total of 837 ammos, 78 arms, 2 hand grenades and others.

Of the total number of abductions, the police report said 18 civilians were killed while 19 were injured. Also seven police personnel were killed during the operations while 12 were injured, the report stated.-By Our Reporter
