Lantern Fest to lit up city

SHILLONG, DEC 9: Over 2000 lanterns are all set to light up Shillong sky to send across the message of ‘peace and prosperity’ during a first of its kind ‘Shillong Lantern Festival’, which will be held at Polo 2nd ground on December 19.

“We have decided to organize the Shillong Lantern Festival with an aim to spread the message of peace to the people across the state,” Amazing Colours of India (ACI) project director S Ghosh told reporters on Wednesday.

He said since this is the most celebrated festival across the country, the ACI felt that Shillong also should become one of destination-city for such festival. “It is also befitting to hold the festival during this period so that people can come together and celebrate Chirstmas festival in a different and meaningful way,” Ghosh said.

According to him, the festival will start from 5.30 pm onwards and people who are with Rs 500 ticket will be given one lantern each, while Rs 300 is only for entry.  “We are expecting over 2000 crowd to participate in the festival,” he said.

Meanwhile, the festival is also being organized to extend solidarity with the victims of the recent Chennai-flood. The organizers also appealed to the people of the state to come forward and extend a helping hand to the flood affected victims.

The festival will also features acts and performances such as fire  painting, sand animation, freestyle football and a concert in which bands like Summersalt, Kubikles, This Band, Thegimpi will be performing besides flash-mob dancing and DJ’s.- By Our Reporter
